Department of Defense (DoD) New Media is a United States Department of Defense directorate that utilizes new media to disseminate public information. The directorate was established in October 2006 by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs to research and adopt communication-delivery advancements as part of a wider mission to make DoD more forward-leaning in its approach to communicating in a 24/7 new media age. The DoD New Media directorate initiates programs and products that engage recent and emerging Internet technologies –Web 2.0 and beyond–to make information more transparent and accessible to worldwide audiences (U.S. military members, media, and private citizens) who increasingly use the Internet and mobile devices, such as cell phones, personal digital assistants, and MP3 players, to receive news and information. == DoD Live ==
The DoD New Media directorate has created the DoD Live brand, under which it is establishing its web presence. In the coming year, the directorate plans to launch a DoD Live website to serve as the web portal directing the public to all DoD new media programs and products.
